Yes we can
Do we want to make the world a better place though? Do we care enough about others? Are we willing to get involved? The answer to those questions needs to also be yes, or it just isn't going to happen. It's not up to President Biden or the Congress. It isn't up to the state or the city we live in. It's up to us - ALL of us. We CAN do it. Yes, we can!
Now this may sound pretty simple, and in the past some readers here have suggested that I am not looking at reality. Some point out that this is the real world, not a fairy tale. I know that. I have also seen what happens when people come together for good. When people care about each other there can be some pretty amazing results. Think about it. I'm serious. We need to make things better, not only for ourselves, but for our children and for future generations.
Think about that today. Where can you put some of your time and your talent and yes, even you money? As you make plans, involve others too. Talk to your coworkers and your neighbors and your family. We can make this a better world, so let's do it!

Mother's Bill
A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:
For cutting the grass: $5.00 For cleaning up my room this week: $1.00 For going to the store for you: $.50 Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping: $.25 Taking out the garbage: $1.00 For getting a good report card: $5.00 For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00 Total owed: $14.75
Well, his mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote:
For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me: No Charge
For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you: No Charge
For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years: No Charge
For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead: No Charge
For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose: No Charge Son, when you add it up, the cost of my love is: No Charge.
When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you."
And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL".

family
Is family important in times of crisis or distress? Of course! These days we need our families more than ever. Show the love. Never turn your back.
How can a parent turn their back on a child? How can a kid walk out on mom or dad? How do sisters and brothers stop speaking to each other? Family (to me) is about love. With love there is no fighting or walking out - or kicking out. With love there is respect and there is discussion and there is understanding and hope. Family is the foundation for all that we are.
I remember an interview with Angelina Jolie from several years ago in which the actress said it best: "Family is what grounds you." Indeed.

Be a blessing
During this springtime, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, we can still be a blessing to each other. Things are never too bad for us to do good. I won't sugar-coat it and say everything will be back to normal soon (although things have obviously improved from a year ago). We might not ever see things the way they once were, but that does not mean things won't be good. Let's make it so.
